3rd Place Award (“Secluded in Interior Design VII”) VAA 13th Juried Invitational Exhibition
… “And what I like about this painting is the, again, the ambiguity of a young woman sitting in the middle of the painting and she is surrounded by pieces of architecture. And the architecture is very vague. It is a… can’t really make it out, there are some windows, potentially, but then it is negated by larger color fields. And she sits right into it! And, there was another painting as a companion: She looks down from that perch and it gives a feeling of vulnerability. You sitting in this living machines, caught in a way, and it is almost apocalyptic and it comes to… Vulnerability comes out. And if you know, these days there is a lot of vulnerability, economically, I mean, talking about the protests they say no more rent for anybody, I am just saying this is not what that is, but it is a lot of vulnerabilities, within basically geometric fields. So, I thought it was well done”.

Silvia’s work speaks for itself. It’s my hope that anyone experiencing Silvia’s artistry will appreciate and respect the fine qualities and craftsmanship that the artist intends within it.

On the Mosaic Painting Series
The garden of earthly delights in the paintings of Silvia PintoSouza are secret gardens that reveal - God is in the details. Her floral paintings are reminiscent of cubistic collages yet contemporary with digital formats. Each painting epitomizes flower sprays for the eyes. All of her lurid, lush bouquet still lives are symmetries of form & symmetries of sensuousness.

Mujeres Award
After months of work and examining dozens of resumes Sucesos Newspaper and Solo Mujeres Magazine of Houston, Texas, selected Silvia PintoSouza as Woman Artist of the Year 2014 for her ‘outstanding and inspirational work as an artist’. From 2008 these prestigious publications have awarded only major Hispanic women entrepreneurs in the Houston community. The awards ceremony was held in the Seventh Annual Luncheon Tribute to Hispanic Women, in which the International Women's Day was celebrated, on Thursday March 6th at the Marriott Hotel West Loop. This year the Honorable Texas Supreme Court Judge Eva Guzman was chosen as Woman of the Year 2014. She received the award along with S. Pinto Souza and 24 other Hispanic women that were selected in different professions such as journalism, education, sports, health, law, arts, politics, social workers and women executives in the Hispanic community.

Profuse Variety of Colors
"The initial interest Silvia PintoSouza’s work stirs originates from the creative inquietude that has taken her to investigate in a permanent manner. Her inbred sensibility, the dexterity in drawing and exultant use of color is complemented by the continuous learning, which allows her the incursion in a wide variety of technique and materials, including ceramics, printing and photography.
After a period dedicated to abstractionism in which she involves a sensible geometry and Pre-Columbian symbols, she is now working within the figurative arts using traditional arguments: landscapes and jars with exuberant flowers in a profuse variety of colors that she uses as a thematic support of great realism to make feasible a search directly related with space, treated through light and color, with an even rhythm that furnishes movement and vitality to the painting. Establishing diverse levels and areas on the surface and suggesting in this manner various approaches and focuses, she goes beyond traditional perspective and enriches the spectator’s glance."

Intense Search for Language of Expression
"Some time ago I heard an art critic saying that the main characteristic of Colombian artists is the devotion to their work. In fact, there is an evident relationship between the apogee of the Colombian painting starting in the fifties and that characteristic, common to the names that excel in the international circuit.
In this sense, Silvia PintoSouza isn’t an exception. Her trajectory is marked by the intense search of a language of expression, by the experimentation with diverse techniques and by a constant inquietude to interpret space, color and light.
The detailed drawings in her former etching might lead the viewer to think of her as an artist captivated by Hyper Realism, attached to minute detail. Nevertheless, looking at her work in retrospective we can understand that since when Silvia has been capturing the light to define it through color; that she is not interested merely in detail and shape by themselves, but in their relation with luminosity and tonality.
I believe not to be mistaken in affirming that this Colombian artist will set out to look for new plastic experiences and that her future work will have same consistency for she assumes it with seriousness and enthusiasm."

Rich and Abundant Material
"Why is it that South American artists are afraid of their roots? There are exceptions like Szyslo, Obregon… Even in Colombia, where these roots are so strong, where the past is still part of the daily routine.
What called most of my attention in the paintings of Silvia PintoSouza, apart from the intrinsic value of her work, is precisely the spontaneity with which she uses the pre-Colombian symbols (ref. Primitive Series) and interprets their color. There are many Colombian artists with great talent, but the majority follows the path of international art. That is alright, but why not takes also advantage of the rich and abundant material that Colombia offers.  We have the great examples of artists like Ramirez Villamizar, de Obregon, de Szyslo in Peru and other (very few) South American artists.  Clearly it must be transubstantiation rather than a simple transposition.  That is what Silvia is attempting – without fear – and with very good results.  The possibilities are numerous, and the path a very long one, but Silvia has strength, talent and youth.  The results can only be good…"
