S. PintoSouza – Biography
Silvia PintoSouza is a Houston based artist. She has a diploma in Art and Design from the Byam Shaw School of Art in London, England (now Central Saint Martins School of Art part of the University of the Arts London – UAL). She continued her art training with courses of photo printing at the Slade School of Art in London. While living and working as an artist in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, she took additional printing courses at the Pontifical Catholic University and the School of Visual Arts at Parque Lage. She worked on several techniques such as Lithography, Etching, Silkscreen and Woodcut. She also has a degree in Architectural Drafting from Universidad Javeriana in Bogota, Colombia. For more than two decades now she has devoted herself exclusively to painting. Throughout her career, Silvia Pinto Souza has received several awards and honors from various institutions and has had many solo and group exhibitions both in the USA and abroad.  Her works are in collections in several states and countries throughout the world.  More detailed information about the artist’s whereabouts is found in Silvia Pinto Souza’s Resumé (see ABOUT).

Silvia's body of work consists of various Series going from Florals and Nature to Urban Landscapes. The great variety of themes in her work is the result of observations and data recorded not only in trips to various countries and states, but also in daily life experiences: “Beautiful images with intense contrast of color, light, shadow, texture and shape are enough to make my senses vibrate.”  Particularly the Series Mosaic Paintings, and Florals and Nature reflect Silvia Pinto Souza’s sensibility and admiration for nature. She sees herself as an artist whose goal is “to bring pleasant and positive thoughts to one’s mind; to give pleasure to the senses. It doesn’t matter how complex or how simple the image is, as long as it brightens the viewer’s heart”.
Her favorite mediums are water based, especially Acrylic paint, because she feels acrylics give her the freedom to stretch the properties of the paint to the limits.  From thick paint paste applied with spatula, Silvia goes to countless washes of very thin diluted paint, building up in this manner the various values of color and texture she looks for.  Collage is also an important medium of support to create on the canvas the diverse bases she uses on her paintings. Throughout her career, Silvia PintoSouza has received several awards and honors from various institutions and has had many solo and group exhibitions both in the USA and abroad.  Her works are in collections in several states and countries throughout the world. Her art pieces brighten and decorate with their rich vibrant colors and textures a wide variety of spaces such as lobbies, waiting, consulting, meeting rooms, and private homes all around. They have also inspired fashion since her themes are well suited to be used in textiles and accessories.
